Cosmetics for pregnant women: the best treatments to adopt during pregnancy and breastfeeding

Cosmétiques pour femmes enceintes : les meilleurs soins à adopter pendant la grossesse et l’allaitement

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the beauty routine is no longer the same. Several hormonal changes occur during this phase, which can affect the beauty of the skin. For this reason, certain skin care products are recommended, and it's important to choose cosmetics that are safe for the health of the foetus and its well-being after birth. To this end, here are a few solutions to adopt during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Sun protection to avoid pregnancy mask

Pregnancy mask, also known as melasma, is a hyperpigmentation of the skin that generally occurs in pregnant women. It results in the appearance of dark patches on various parts of the body, notably the forehead, nose, cheekbones and chin. This phenomenon is due to the hormonal upheaval caused by pregnancy, which significantly increases melanin production.

Although this skin pigmentation occurs in almost 75% of women, it is nonetheless treatable. In fact, it can even be prevented. Those affected (pregnant women) are advised to protect themselves from the sun at all times. This can be done by using sun cream. If, on the other hand, you have already been exposed to the sun's rays without protection, remember to apply a ceramide-rich cream immediately afterwards to soothe and moisturise the skin.

Anti-stretch mark care during pregnancy

Stretch marks are common during pregnancy. They affect a large majority of pregnant women and appear from the 2nd e or 3rde month, invading the stomach, hips, buttocks and breasts. This phenomenon is the result of the brutal stretching of the skin during pregnancy, which weakens the collagen and elastin fibres. Like pregnancy masks, it can be treated and even prevented. A number of organic creams and oils are recommended. Hyaluronic acid and silk pearls are also recommended solutions. These treatments help to control inflammation by encouraging cell proliferation and adjusting the pH of the wounds.

It's also important to note that stretch mark treatments should be applied to the areas prone to stretch marks, rather than all over the skin. This could be a waste, given that stretch marks only occur on certain specific parts of the body. During application, don't forget to gently massage the skin to stimulate blood circulation and improve absorption of the active ingredients in the chosen treatment.

Tips to protect your breasts while breastfeeding

Many women carry the after-effects of breastfeeding with them for many years. But all it takes is a few tips to help any small wounds heal and keep your breasts looking their best. Firstly, support. Contrary to what some women think, wearing a bra has no harmful effect on the breasts during breastfeeding. On the contrary, it keeps the breast in place during feedings and prevents it from interfering with the baby's sucking action. Another useful tip is moisturising and massaging. Continue the course of moisturising massage you started during pregnancy and do it as often as possible. Finally, keep your breasts firm by splashing them with ice water at the end of your shower. This will firm the skin tissue and improve the posture of your breasts.
